Mountain Medicine (2015) Julia Tcharfas, Project 1049, Luma Foundation, Gstaad Switzerland

Ever since physician Michel-Gabriel Paccard completed the first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786, mountaineering and medical innovation have been intrinsically linked pursuits. In a sense, our examination of the world’s extremes has been an exploration of the limits of life and the terrain of the body. Mountain Medicine is a sculptural site specific display that stages the material history of the Alps as a laboratory and the body as a barometer.
